Now that is the kinda of start from your fourth starter that shows just how deep our rotation is. Washburn struggled in his first start, he looked flat out terrible. Last night was like watching a different guy. He pitched 7 strong innings giving up 6 hits and only 1 earned run. Washburn worked fast last night as usual and seemed to have much better command of his pitches. Some people were worried having him and Bedard on back to back nights would cause some issues since they are both lefties. Clearly that didn't matter at all. Once again the bullpen came in for the last two innings and shut things down giving up only 2 hits.
Nice to see the offense put 7 runs on the board last night. Beltre hit a solo home run in the 5th inning and backup catcher Jamie Burke launched a 3 run home run in the 8th inning. Lopez continues to get it done at the plate whether it be a hit, bunt or a sacrifice. He is off to a great start and let's hope he keeps it up throughout the entire season.
M's go for the sweep today down in Florida before they head home for a huge series against division rivals the Angels. Miguel Batista takes the mound for the M's and Edwin Jackson for the Rays.
